The Lamy AL-star fountain pen is essentially a premium version of the iconic Lamy safari. The AL-star is shaped identically to the safari but swaps out the tough ABS plastic for sleek and cool anodised aluminium. The trademark wire clip is present and correct, along with the ink level window, triangular grip and smooth-writing steel nib. Plenty of nib options on most colours, plus easy swap to any of the good-value replacement nibs. Cartridge pens, but optional Z24 converter allows use of any bottled ink. The basic colour range is regularly augmented by special edition colours which have a limited production run.
